How to Choose the Right Exhibition Carpet Colour for Your Booth
Exhibition carpet colour is one of those decisions that looks simple on a swatch card and gets complicated the moment your booth is sitting under hall lighting next to forty other stands. Get it right and the floor disappears into the brand experience. Get it wrong and it's the first thing visitors notice — for the wrong reasons.
Start with what the carpet has to survive
Before colour, think about traffic. A three-day trade show at DWTC or Expo City means thousands of footsteps, rolling cases, spilled coffee and the occasional dropped brochure. Darker charcoal, navy and deep red hide scuffing and dust far better than pale grey or cream — which is exactly why you'll see so much of it on show floors.
The carpet that photographs best on day one isn't always the one that still looks sharp on day three. Choose for the whole show, not the opening morning.
Match to brand, not just to logo colour
A literal match to your logo's Pantone reference can read flat under exhibition lighting, which tends to wash out saturated colour. A near-match — a shade or two darker or more muted than your brand colour — usually reads truer on the floor and holds up better against LED rig lighting.
Colours that work hardest on a show floor
- Charcoal & graphite — near-universal, hides wear, pairs with almost any stand graphics.
- Deep red & burgundy — strong contrast against white shell-scheme walls, reads premium.
- Navy — corporate, calm, especially strong for finance, tech and government stands.
- Custom-printed — logo or pattern printed directly into the carpet for stands that want the floor doing marketing work.
Consider the neighbours
Adjacent booths matter more than most exhibitors expect. A bright colour next to another exhibitor's bright colour can visually bleed together at a distance; a strong colour next to a neutral one stands out. If you know your hall position in advance, it's worth asking what's booked either side.
Sample before you commit
Photos and screens shift colour constantly. If a colour choice matters to your brand, ask for a physical swatch under real light before the order is cut — it's a five-minute check that avoids a costly reprint of branded stand graphics that no longer match the floor.
